Recently, Modern Physics Letter B, as a subordinate of World Scientific Publishing Co Pte Ltd, announced the list of the TOP Article of 2022. "Manipulations of Cold Atoms in a One-dimensional Ring Lattice" published by Zhang Shan, Wang Zezhou, and Junjun Liu, the graduates in 2023 of Leicester International Insitute (DLI) and Associate Professor Cui Bo of the School of Physics made the list.
It is said that Modern Physics Letter B is an authoritative journal included in the international databases SCIE and SCI, providing a channel for the rapid circulation of the most important and latest research results in condensed matter physics, statistical physics, as well as atomic, molecular and optical physics. In 2022, the journal published more than 400 articles, and only six of them were included in the Top Article list.
This research work is derived from innovative training projects for college students directed by Dr Cui Bo (both projects achieved excellent results with a 5% selection ratio). Zhang Shan is responsible for literature review, paper writing and numerical simulation, etc. Wang Zezhou is responsible for main equation derivation, symmetry discussion, mathematical proofs, circulation simulation, etc. Liu Junjun is responsible for circulation data processing, circulation basin data processing and image rendering. After graduating, Zhang Shan will further her study at Tsing Hua University for a doctor’s degree in mechanical engineering; Wang Zezhou is admitted to Fudan University for pursuing doctor’s degree in mathematics; and Liu Junjun receives an offer from Columbia University in the City of New York for master’s degree of Statistics.
In addition, under the guidance of Dr Cui Bo, undergraduate students Yang Chenglong and Zhang Qi from the class of 2021 continued to conduct in-depth research on the subject direction. The innovation training project directed by Dr Cui Bo won the first prize in the 19th Dalian University of Technology “Pandeng” Cup Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition. It was recommended by DUT to participate in the 16th "Challenge Cup" Liaoning Provincial College students' extracurricular academic science and technology works competition.
Students of DLI have achieved excellent progress in various scientific and technological innovation competitions and research projects. DLI has always attached great importance to cultivating students' awareness and the ability to scientific and technological innovation. In the future, based on programmes features and focused on the students' traits, DLI will continue to build a platform for scientific and technological education, leading excellent learning style, broadening students' international vision, constantly improving students' comprehensive ability, and making efforts to accelerate the new journey of building DUT a first-class university.
