Recently, Dong Hongbiao, the lecturer of Leicester International Institute(DLI), a professor of material engineering at University of Leicester, and the research chairman of the Royal Academy of Engineering was rated as one of the 72 leading figures in the field of engineering and technology by the Royal Academy of Engineering, and was elected an academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering. These 72 leading figures are composed of 60 academicians, 7 international academicians and 5 honorary academicians. Each of them is an outstanding talent who makes pioneering and innovation, leads progress, makes outstanding contributions in the industry and promotes progress in engineering and technology fields.

Professor Dong Hongbiao has made outstanding contributions to solidification modeling and its application in casting and welding. His modeling work revealed the secret of solute driven solidification, provided more practical solutions for casting and welding, and had a profound impact on both theory and industrial application. At present, the project has been used in undergraduate teaching. Professor Dong said modestly, "I am honored to be elected as an academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering. I have been committed to the development of computer models, and through the cooperation between academia and industry, I have transformed engineering research and innovation into technology in the metal industry. I am lucky to work with colleagues in the metal industry, and collaborative work has really brought important significance to the project."

In this semester, Professor Dong Hongbiao taught the course of pressure vessels and equipment to the junior students of the DLI's Mechanical Engineering.
