CET is a large-scale standardized test sponsored by the Ministry of education and hosted and implemented by the examination center of the Ministry of education. It is a national teaching test. Its purpose is to promote college English Teaching in China, objectively and accurately measure college students' English ability, and provide services for improving the teaching quality of College English courses in China. CET began in 1987 and has gone through more than 30 years, which has had a positive impact on the development and reform of College English Teaching in China.

The CET written examination takes place in June and December each year; The CET oral test takes place in May and November every year. Candidates who apply for the oral test must first apply for the written test at the corresponding level.
