【Academic Lecture】Intelligent chemical product project: Academician Xiaojun Peng gave an online introductory course to tutors and students

At 10 a.m. on 18thMay, Xiaojun Peng, Professor of DUT, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences, Director of State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals and Dean of School of Chemical Engineering, was invited to give an introductory course entitled“intelligent chemical product project”to the tutors and students of DLI and School of Chemical Engineering in DUT Panjin Campus. This meeting was held on Tencent Meeting and conducted byProfessor Ming Bao, Deputy Dean of School of Chemical Engineering in DUT Panjin Campus.

Academician Peng first took three semiconductor materials with restricted export to South KoreafromJapan as an example to draw forth the connotation of intelligent chemical product project. At the same time, he emphasized the intellectualization trend in precision medicine, product functions, electronic information and new energy. Meanwhile,Pengalsoproposed that the intellectualization of new energy chemical intelligence is imperative. Then, heencouraged students to shoulder thecriticalmission of chemical intellectualization and witness the coming of the age of intelligence.

After that, Academician Peng talked about the research achievements and transformingthesituation of dyes developed by his team in the fields of information and life medicine. Among them, the weather-resistant printing dyes have made a technical breakthrough. When breaking the foreign monopolies, the production of cartridges has accounted for 25% of global cartridges in 2018. Academician Peng also focused on the cutting-edge application of“dye for cancer diagnosis and treatment”in the field of tumour imaging and treatment. The dyedeveloped by his leadingcan well show the exact location and size of the tumour, and it has a good effect on thephoto-dynamictherapy of tumours.

In addition, academician Peng gave an outline of the bottlenecksinconfronting the intelligent chemical product that his team is working on, such as optical IT material, optical filter with colour display and high-resolution colour photo-resist, flexible film base, flexible polarized material, and specificdye for medical treatment with an intelligent response. His speech not only broadened the vision of the faculty and students but also improved the students’ interestsin studying smart products in their field.

At last, academician Peng answered the questions thatstudents concerned, such as the dye for cancer diagnosis and treatment and the cost of printing dye, in an active classroomatmosphere.

Academician Peng imparted theories from a great perspective. The students also benefited a lot from his patriotism and determination to overcome difficulties.

Annex: The Profile of Xiaojun Peng

Xiaojun Peng is the Professor of DUT, Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences and the Director of State Key Laboratory of Fine Chemicals and the Member of the Discipline Evaluation Group of the State Council. He received his bachelor’s, master’s and doctor's degreesinDUT. He isalsoa postdoctoral fellow at Nankai University, and a visiting scholar at Stockholm University and Northwestern University.

He is mainly engaged in the research of fine chemicals including high-performance dyes, fluorescent probes and organic optical materials. His findings,such asdigital colour printing and blood cell analysis, have been commercialized. To commend his contribution, the Chinese government granted him the Second Prize of National Award for Technological Invention in 2006 and the Second Prize of National Natural Science Award in 2013. He was rated as “Highly Cited Researchers” in the world by Thomson Reuters for many times. In 2017, he was elected as the Academician of Chinese Academy of Sciences.
