【Focus on Internationalization】Students of DLI have won the "Peer Support Award" in UoL

Recently, the University of Leicester (UoL) has announced the award results of the student opportunities awards in 2019, in which the students from Leicester International Institute (DLI) have applied for the award for the first time this year. Among them, Sun Yuanzhi, a 2017 undergraduate, won the Peer Support Award, becoming the first winner of the institute.In addition, Qin Tianrun, a 2018 undergraduate, was nominated by Peer Support Award.The achievements fully reflects the educational purpose of “ Concept combination, Culture mutual learning, Resource sharing, Win-win cooperation ” between the two schools.

The Student Opportunities Awards is the highest honor of the Annual Student Awards held by UoL for more than 20,000 students. There are 19 awards in total. This year, more than 400 students have signed up for the election. Through comprehensive evaluation, only one person won each award eventually. Among them, peer support award is translated as "Tong ji Support Award", which aims to recognize outstanding students who provide help and support to students through voluntary service and thus have a positive impact on the university or community.

“When a horse knows it has a long way to go, it will push himself forward even if no one urges it”. As a student of the first session in the institute, Sun Yuanzhi has always been strict with himself. He ranks first in the major for three consecutive years (92 students in this major), with a weighted average score of 94.3. He has won national scholarship, merit students and other honorary titles for two consecutive years. At the same time, he has made remarkable achievements in science and technology innovation competitions and sports competitions.Meanwhile, he took the initiative to take the responsibility of helping other students. He helped more than 140 people in various forms, such as key knowledge lectures, answering questions before examinations and so on. "As a person who actively closes to the Party Organization, it's a great honour for me to have the opportunity to serve my classmates and urge myself to be excellent while actively promoting other students to make progress together." said Sun. After three years of persistence and dedication, he was unanimously affirmed by his classmates and teachers. He won the first prize in class democratic appraisal and was identified as the first batch of development objects of the college.

Sun's award is not only an affirmation of his unremitting self-improvement and selfless dedication, but also an epitome of deep cooperation between China and the UK. The students of DLI have dual school rolls and enjoy the dual high-quality teaching resources of the two universities. Meanwhile, the advanced talent training methods of both sides can be spread relying on the college platform.In the past three years, the management teams of these two schools have been constantly exploring in practice, firmly grasping the main idea of talent training, actively creating opportunities to broaden the international vision of students, and striving to cultivate students' cross-cultural communication ability. The educational philosophy of both sides have gradually changed from cooperation to in-depth integration. Under the close cooperation and support, it is believed that the college will step out of a new era of international cooperation with distinctive characteristics, international vision and connotative development.
