The professional orientation meeting of the Leicester International Institute was held from September 28 to October 16. The meeting has applied three parts— BSc Chemistry, BSc Mathematics and BEng Mechanical. The speechmakers are Professor Tan Zhenquan, Associate Dean, Leicester International Institute. Professor Yu Bo, Director of Basic Science of Mathematics, Associate Professor Zhou Yihui, Director of Chemical Engineering respectively. All freshmen for class of 2020 and their counsellors attended, too.

During the orienting meeting of the Chemistry, Professor Tan have introduced the institute in terms of the growing of the major itself, the faculty teams and the prospect of development. Combined with the year of experience in administration, Pro. Tan focused on the characteristics education model and management system of Sino-Britsh cooperation and made a detailed explanation of the arrangement of the English curriculum. Finally, he hoped that every student can cherish the quality resources, strengthen their own learning and start a happy, fruitful college life.

At the introduction meeting of Mathematics., professor Yu Bo introduced the development and application of mathematics. He emphasized the increasingly important role of mathematics in the development of modern science, especially in the application of interdisciplinary subjects. As the promoter and establisher, he introduced the situation, background and the characteristics of mathematics in detail. At last, he hoped that all students can study hard and broaden their horizons.

At the orientation meeting of Chemical Engineering, Mrs. Zhou defined the major as the Power of Reviving the Nation and Foundation of People’s Livelihood. Then, she gave a systematical introduction to freshmen from three aspects, which are what is the purpose of the program, historical changes of process equipment and controlled engineering and talent cultivation and future of the major. Mrs. Zhou exhorted that students should master the ten kernel courses confirmedly, make great foundation and accumulate strength for researching and developing the national important special process equipment and technical products.

The three brilliant professional orientation meetings provide a great chance for freshmen to have a deeper insight into the fundamental contents and the blueprints of their majors. It helps students quickly have more acquaintance with the characters of their major and make sure the goal which they are going to reach. It is believed that with these lectures holding successfully, the class of 2020 would study harder from now on, spare no efforts to reach their goals and try their best to take their responsibilities, providing themselves with more wonderful and unforgettable youth.
