In order to enable students to fully understand the postgraduate courses of the University of Leicester, understand the significance of their current majors, and clarify their future professional directions, Dalian Leicester International Institute invited the heads of master admissions from the School of Chemistry, School of Engineering and School of Computer and Mathematical Sciences at the University of Leicester to hold a special lecture to introduce the master's program, application requirements and simplifying the application process for students on April 21st.

Dr. Richard Doveston, a master's admissions officer from the School of Chemistry, first gave a comprehensive introduction to the School of Chemistry. As one of the earliest established faculties of the University of Leicester, the School of Chemistry enjoys a long history and a solid academic foundation. The rich courses of MSc Chemistry, as well as the interdisciplinary research with biology, medicine and natural earth sciences, provide students with a broader research field and research direction and also enrich the employment options of graduates.

After that, programme director Dr. Imran Patel introduced master programmes available within the School of Engineering. As he mentioned, the School of Engineering of the University of Leicester is one of the few engineering schools with Triple Accreditation (IMechE, IET & InstMC) in the UK. The current running programmes cover not only the field of traditional engineering but also the trending interdisciplinary combination of engineering and management. The newly launched MEM (Master of Engineering Management) programme has attracted widespread attention immediately after it started its first-year operation 4 years ago. Located in the City of Leicester, the biggest aerospace centre in the UK, the University of Leicester also holds Aerospace Engineering (MSc) as one of its leading majors, processing plentiful research findings in the field. Besides, the School of Engineering is also keeping a close partnership with world-famous manufacturing companies such as Jaguar, Rolls-Royce, IBM and Unilever, providing various employment opportunities for its graduates.

Dr. Paul King and Dr. Andrey Morozov, the head of the master institute of Computer and Mathematical Science, introduced the relevant Master's programs. The first is MSc in Actuarial Science with Data Analytics, which has a broad career prospect and is a very good choice for students with a solid foundation in mathematics. Currently, big data analytics talents are scarce, thus big data analytics is a popular profession. According to the McKinsey Global Institute, the potential job gap for data analytics professionals is estimated to be about 140,000 to 190,000. In addition, our students can also apply for MSc in Data Analysis for Business Intelligence (1 year) and MSc in Data Analysis for Business Intelligence with Industry (2 years), the latter course covers a 12-month business internship, which is a rarity in traditional UK master's programs and provides graduates with a good background for subsequent job searches.

The University of Leicester is ranked the 27th in the UK (and 185th in the world) in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings which is in the top 1% in the world and in the top 25 universities in the Times Higher Education REF Research Power rankings which is the top 5 in the UK. The University of Leicester has simplified the application process for DLI students and has set up a generous scholarship for them to continue their studies at the University of Leicester.
