They are Professor Zhan Jingjing, the Dean of Leicester International Institute, Associate Dean Professor Tan Zhenquan and other faculty members. 15 student representatives from SSC members were present and 7 sit-ins were set up. They attended the meeting both online and offline.
Through the Zoom Video Conference, Professor Sarah Davies gave high expectation and recognition to the SSC conference. She said that the SSC conference has always been a traditional and formal teacher-student exchange mechanism in the University of Leicester: the college will discuss and give feedback on students' questions and suggestions and improve the teaching and management to enhance students' learning experience. The SSC conference has been very important to the development of Leicester International Institute. She has learned that in the past few years, the institute has worked to help students solve problems by implementing the recommendations made at the SSC conference and it has received rave reviews from students and teachers, so the UoL hopes to hear and adopt more from students.
Subsequently, they discussed the issues raised by the student groups from the three majors and four grades, covering the teaching mode, course content, examination form, network support, teaching feedback and administrative support, etc. The participating teachers also provided thorough and detailed answers and proposed solutions. They will continue to follow them up and implement effective recommendations after the meeting. Then, discussions on teachers' issues were followed. Faculty members provided feedback on students' learning conditions and results so far, as well as the guidance and direction.
In the end, Zhan Jingjing expressed his eager hope for students. He said that every student should have a clear goal, learn to have forethought, have the sense of crisis and plan and prepare ahead. He also pointed out that students in Leicester, when having trouble in their studies, should face them and head on, try their best to solve it, make more efforts to adapt to the international teaching mode and meet the international assessment standards of Chinese and British combination, instead of asking teachers to lower the standard, only in this way can they make continuous progress and become competitive college students.
Since the SSC founded, the conference has achieved a regular, oriented construction and the SSC conference has become an important carrier for Leicester International Institute students to express their aspirations, enhance the interaction between teachers and students and make suggestions for the development and construction of the institute. SSC will continue to do a good job of publicity and guidance, do its best to solve the problems that students meet in study and life, and then promote the progress of institute work and students’ development in all aspects.
