In order to facilitate the communication between teachers and students, listen to students' voices and solve students' problems, Leicester International Institute (DLI) held the first (the 21st in total) Student Staff Committee (SSC) meeting of 2022-2023 academic year on 1st November.

DLI student reps ran the meeting in the conference room and also via zoom. The Chairman of SSC, WU Junliang hosted the meeting.

Prof. Tan Zhenquan, the DLI Deputy Dean, Academic Leads, Dr. Kal Karim and Dr. Mohammed Azeem, English Language Center Manager, Gary Marston and other administrative staff from two sides joined to answer students’ questions.

The meeting first followed up the actions from the previous meeting. Then the student reps raised the issues which collected from all years and programmes of DLI, including improving the network environment, having a Chinese teaching assistant to answer students’ question after-class, suggestions on assessment and examination, and improving the facilities of the institute resource reading room. Communications with staff launched a warm discussion. The staff reps affirmed students' suggestions for helping the development of the institute, answered students' questions in detail, adopted some feasible suggestions that were good for students and the institute, and expressed that they would continue to follow up the issues that could not be resolved in the meeting.

SSC has always been providing opportunities for students to solve their problems which were needed in study and life effectively since DLI established. In addition, SSC has helped students to get familiar with how a joint institute runs through effective communication and implementation of staged meetings. SSC has played an important role in promoting the development of teaching, research and construction of the institute, and provided a better learning experience and growth platform for students.
