For the sake of forming an upsurge of learning and speaking English, DIA held the first Social Event, providing students with a one-stop platform to show themselves and communicate with each other. This English-speaking contest, Hometown in My Eye, focuses on helping the 2022 freshmen integrate into our Institute, attracting 10 groups of students and nearly 100 audiences.

This online speech contest is open to all students from the first to the fourth year of Leicester International Institute. There are two forms of competition: individual and team. The participating teams will give online speeches in English to introduce their hometowns around the themes of history, culture, customs, cuisines, beauty and urban features.

Depending on English slideshows and videos, the contestants led students to take a virtual tour of the beautiful sceneries, gourmet food and customs of their hometown, helping students walk into one charming Chinese city after another.

The theme of this activity is closely related to everyone's life. In the process of sharing and discussing in English, the students not only gave consideration to the smoothness of language and the standard of pronunciation and intonation, but also introduced their hometown in a targeted way, which improved their English expression ability and made everyone more love and understand their hometown better. The activity content was rich and interesting and the students who participated in it expressed their interest.

Through this activity, students can not only have a deep understanding of the beautiful Chinese cities, but also broaden their horizons, experience the urban culture and further feel the charm of English language expression. We hope students can continue to pay attention to DLI Social events in the future and then improve English ability.
