The 2026 “Challenge Cup” Liaoning Provincial College Student Entrepreneurship Plan Competition has recently concluded. An undergraduate team from Leicester International College of Dalian University of Technology (DLI) — Xing Yunfu, Jia Hongli, Liang Qixin, Zhu Jiayi, Wu Yishan and others, advised by Wang Xiaofeng and Zhenquan Tan — won the Grand Prize at the provincial level with the project AmineShield: A Highly Selective Gas-Sensing Module for Precise Identification of Amine Gases.

The project addresses the need to monitor amine gas leaks in chemical industrial parks, hazardous chemical storage and transport, and environmental regulation. Conventional gas sensors suffer from insufficient sensitivity, weak selectivity, slow response and high deployment costs. In response, the team proposed an integrated solution covering “highly selective gas-sensing materials — sensor module — wireless transmission — anomaly alert”. Centred on the identification of amine gases such as triethylamine (TEA), the project combines highly sensitive gas-sensing materials, a standardized sensor module and a data transmission system to achieve low-concentration detection, rapid response and on-site early warning, giving it strong engineering application value.

During the preparation period, under the guidance of the Communist Youth League Working Committee of the Panjin Campus and of the College, the team carried out more than ten rounds of systematic refinement covering project positioning, technical route, product logic, market analysis and the on-site defence. From application materials to roadshow presentations, from technical expression to financial models, from presentation logic to the question-and-answer session, the team continuously cut redundancy, highlighted core innovation and completed the project loop, gradually transforming a technical result into a well-structured, clearly reasoned and application-oriented business plan.

In recent years, Leicester International College has been committed to deeply integrating disciplinary education with innovation and entrepreneurship education, and to cultivating research-oriented talent with an international outlook. From preparation to the final award, the team demonstrated the College's comprehensive training and support in student scientific innovation, engineering practice, innovation and entrepreneurship. The team will also continue to improve the sensor performance, module structure and application scheme of the AmineShield project, and to promote its further application in chemical safety monitoring, environmental regulation of industrial parks and risk early warning for hazardous chemicals.
